Il ruolo del patologo

La Prof. Borisch descrive il fondamentale ruolo del patologo nella diagnosi del tumore del seno, soffermandosi sul fatto che il referto che la donna riceve (o l’uomo perché sappiamo che in una bassa percentuale di casi anche l’uomo può essere colpito da questo tumore, circa l’1-2%) è la chiave di lettura per capire quale deve essere il trattamento più adatto e personalizzato da adottare da parte dell’oncologo. Le Linee Guida Europee (European Guidelines for Quality Assurance in Breast Cancer Screening and Diagnosis) prevedono degli indicatori di qualità e parametri che devono essere necessariamente inclusi nel referto istologico di questo tumore. Ed è di fondamentale importanza che le donne abbiano libero accesso al proprio referto istologico e lo possano discutere con l’oncologo o comunque il clinico di riferimento.
